What’s a Rat Terrier, Anyway? 🐾
Rat Terriers are a small but mighty breed with a big personality packed into a sleek, athletic frame. Originally bred in the U.S. for—you guessed it—ratting, these dogs were essential on farms for controlling rodents and other pests. Don’t let the name fool you, though. Rat Terriers are much more than hunters. They're loyal, intelligent, and absolutely brimming with personality.
Max in Action 🐕
Max might be small, but don’t underestimate him. He’s the first to chase off squirrels, greet guests, and inspect any new happenings around the farm. Whether we’re fixing fences, planting seeds, or taking guests on a tour, Max is always nearby—usually trotting ahead like he’s the one giving the tour.
He’s got a nose for adventure and a love for cuddles, making him both a working dog and a total sweetheart. And yes, he sleeps hard after a long day of patrolling the farm (preferably on a sunny windowsill or a warm lap) ☀️🛏️.

Smart cookies: These dogs pick up on commands fast and love to learn new tricks 🧠.
Compact & tough: They’re small enough for lap time, but sturdy enough for farm life 💪.
Loyal to the core: Once they bond with their people, they’re in it for life 👨👩👧👦.
High energy, high fun: Perfect for an active lifestyle—and for keeping things interesting.
Thinking About a Rat Terrier?
If you're considering adding a pup to your home, Rat Terriers are great for folks who want a dog that’s both fun and functional. They do best with lots of stimulation—mental and physical—and truly thrive when they have a “job,” even if that job is just being your shadow.
Come Say Hi to Max!

Next time you visit Pine Mountain Farm, keep your eyes peeled (or listen for the patter of fast little paws). Max will probably be the first to greet you—with a wag, a sniff, and maybe even a little bark to say: “Welcome to my farm.” 🐾
